WHAT ABOUT GREEN PRODUCTS?
Whether your motivation is saving the earth's resources or simply your own, Entegra offers products that are light on Mother Earth and your wallet.
Concrete Tile is Green, Naturally
In the hustle and hype of the Green Movement, many consumers are often so concerned with a label or certification that they will make irrational decisions based on a seal of someone's approval rather than looking at the actual products. For instance, are there "green" shingles on the market? Yes, there are certified "green" shingles that are a tad less full of petroleum than the rest of them. But guess what? They're still full of petroleum!
Concrete tile has been green long before it became mainstream. Our products are made with simple, recyclable materials. The ingredients in concrete tile are natural: sand, cement, water, pigments (for color) and water-based sealers - that's it!
In addition, some profiles of tile provide an insulated air gap between the underside of the tile and the roof deck below. Most of the heat that is not reflected or emitted will escape through this gap, reducing the amount of heat transferred to the roof (and into your home!) below. Roofing materials that rest directly on the roof deck cannot provide this benefit.
GREEN QUALIFICATIONS
Don't get us wrong, we're not against certifications. When used in conjunction with a full product review, certifications can be very helpful. Entegra has a handful of products that are either certified or exceed specific requirements set by particular organizations.

Cool Roof Rating Council
The CRRC is a council that sets specifications for different types of roofing products. They define a "cool roof" as one that reflects and emits the sun's heat back to the sky instead of transferring it to the building below.
- Cool Roofs:
- - increase energy savings
- - reduce urban heat island effect and smog
- - improve occupant comfort
- - comply with codes and green building programs
- - are environmentally friendly
"Coolness" is measured by two properties, solar reflectance (SR) and thermal emittance (TE). Both properties are measured from 0.0 to 1.0, and the higher the value, the cooler the roof.
The Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) is defined as the roof's ability to reject solar heat, as shown by a small temperature rise. It is defined so that
- standard black (reflectance .05, emittance .9) is 0
- standard white (reflectance .8, emittance .9) is 100.
Due to the way SRI is defined, particularly hot materials can take slightly negative values, and particularly cool materials can exceed 100.
Entegra offers an array of colors that meet the qualifications of the CRRC.
Energy Star
What if your roof could save energy, money, and the environment? Choose energy-efficient products that have earned the ENERGY STAR®. It's an easy way to know that you are protecting the environment while also saving money. Products that earn the ENERGY STAR prevent greenhouse gas emissions by meeting strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy.
Entegra offers an array of colors that meet the qualifications of Energy Star.
LEED Certified Building
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a rating system that provides a set of standards for building environmentally sustainable construction. LEED certified buildings use resources more efficiently as opposed to conventional buildings that are simply constructed to code. LEED certified buildings provide healthier work and living environments, improved air and water quality and reductions in solid waste - benefiting not only owners and occupiers, but society as a whole.
Studies suggest that an initial up-front investment of 2% extra will yield over ten times the initial investment during the life cycle of the building. The goal is to install long-lasting materials that do not need to be replaced frequently, reducing depletion of natural resources and adding waste to landfills. Up-front costs are amortized over the life of the building, proving that sustainable products, such as Entegra roof tiles, are a wise and cost-effective investment.
Entegra's concrete roof tile is a product that continues to be manufactured with natural, recyclable materials. Concrete roof tiles are manufactured from sand, cement, water, pigments for color and water based sealers. LEED Certified Building uses a point system for their ratings. By choosing Entegra products, you can earn up to 4 points towards your LEED construction project. Call our LEED Certified Specialist to find out more at (863) 467-0042.
Florida Utility Company Rebates
Some Florida utility companies offer an incentive to those who install reflective roofs. In addition to the up-front incentives distributed by these utility companies, hundreds of dollars can be saved yearly in reduced energy costs by installing a reflective roof. Contact your local utility company for current rebate offerings.
Entegra offers a few colors that qualify for Florida Utility Rebates.
